Who we are
The Arc of Marion County supports children and adults with intellectual and
developmental disabilities by providing services to enhance their dignity, expand their
opportunities and protect their rights throughout their lifetime.
In 1953, a small number of people in Marion County started the first group of what
would eventually become The Arc of Marion County. Because there were movements
underfoot across the United States to consolidate, our first non profit charter was
actually through the State of Washington. Over time, Oregon developed its own
State Chapter - The Arc of Oregon, and many county chapters followed.
The Arc of the United States leads us all in advocating for research, protection
laws, education and support services and represents all of the people from all
counties in every state. Because of this national presence, lawmakers understand
that "The Arc" also means thousands of concerned votes who want the best life
possible for our citizens who have special needs.
